love. sacrifice.

today is Good Friday.

I've been meaning to update my xanga for a while now, but I had nothing to say until now.

"What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?" Pilate asked.
They all answered, "Crucify him!"
"Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!"
Matthew 27:22-23

v. 26: Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.

Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
Matthew 27:27-31

Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!"
In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself! He's the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" - which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Matthew 27:39-46

Today marks the day of Jesus' death on a cross, a tool of torture. Not only was his death painful and an invention of suffering, he had to endure abuse, being flogged, mockery, being spit on...yeah. He was humiliated and broken and rejected even before the first nail pierced his skin. And then he was forsaken by God, left completely alone without His comfort or His presence.

why. why did Jesus do it? It is true - he could have saved himself. Why didn't he?

All for love.

"Love Song," - Third Day
I heard a tale 'bout a man who climbed a mountain
just to be with the one he loved
How many times has he broken that promise
It has never been done

I've never climbed the highest mountain
But I've walked the hill of Calvary

Just to be with you I would do anything
There's no price I would not pay, no
Just to be with you I would give everything
I would give my life away, yeah

I heard a tale that a man would swim the ocean
just to be with the one he loved
All of those dreams are an empty emotion
It can never be done

I've never swam the deepest ocean
But I walked upon the raging sea

Just to be with you I would do anything
There's no price I would not pay, no
Just to be with you I would give everything
I would give my life away, yeah

And I know that you don't understand
the fullness of my love
How I died upon the cross for your sin
and I know that you don't realize
How much that I give you
and I promise that I would do it all again

Just to be with you I've done everything
There's no price I did not pay
Just to be with you I gave everything
Yes I gave my life away, yeah
I gave my life away, yeah

just to be with you
oh just to be with you
oh just to be with you
oh just to be with you

for those who love pi(e)

yo, so i:m in 日本 (japan) right now, but i:mma make a quick aussie/international post real quick (i wanted to do this before i left for vacation, but i ran out of time. packing and all that, yeno?)

so, living in australia has brought me to the realization that pi(e) day [as in 3.14, March 14th] does not exist if you do not have your calendar set up to be "month/day\year".

australia [and as far as i can tell, EVERYWHERE but the US (essentially)] sets up their calendar so it goes "day/month/year". they say we americans make it too hard - we`re mixed up cuz` their system is easier cuz it goes from small to big. ANYHOW...

there is not 31st of April. 31.4. nope. THEREFORE...PI day is NOT celebrated in australia...and many other places. the sadness? quite.

something to mull over.

which reminds me - i meet a girl from michigan who had a chem. teacher who brought cakes to class on "mol" day. so weird [i never really like chemistry, and mol cakes dont sound appetizing]. however, if YOU like chem, well, i hear mol day is celebrated in october [according to the american calendar =P].

and yes, i realize most differences im posting between the states and Australia have to do with food, but seriously...this is me we're talkin' about. and yeah, they dont eat/know what are deviled eggs, and PB&J - and call it JAM not JELLY, cuz to them, jelly is basically really weird jello =P.

じゃまた!

Hill-what?!...Hillsong!

Welcome to...
Hillsong Church.

Last week I went to one of their extension services, which meets in a movie theatre at the mall down the street from where I live. Today I went to one of their two main campuses - The Hills (the other is called The City) for their Easter Sunday Family Concert, featuring

Parachute Band, all the way from New Zealand. This was at their 5:00 pm worship service. They were pretty freakin' awesome. yeeup.

Part of their "Resource Center". Recognize what's on display? It was pretty much freakin' huge, right smack dab in the middle of the entrance lobby place. I'm thinking about buying the "I <3 Revolution" CD, but it costs like....$25. hm. Oh and i woulda taken more pictures of the interior, but I woulda felt like an idiot cuz uhm, for most everyone else, they're at their NORMAL church so I felt like a tourist/idolator/crazy person. yeah.
but to describe, they have a little coffee stand by Gloria Jeans (coffee chain out here) and it's 2 stories, and it's really...white....and bright. and other stuff. at least the lobby is. OH! and they had a jumphouse outside for the little kiddies - it was an ARK! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!

hm yeah. can't think of anything else to describe. the bathroom - er, excuse, TOILET, was very clean. the inside of the stall door had an advertisement for their conference in july. yeap!

Inside. and yes, that's a camera [that black thing] and yes it like, swooped around the entire time and sometimes they would show the congregation on the big screen like they do at concerts. woahhh. who wants to serve in that ministry!? professional. too cool for mee..

Look closely. They have a fog machine.

In case you can't tell, I'm sitting off to the left of the stage [when i'm facing it from the congregation...derno what taht's called] so this is the rest of the room if i look away from the stage. i was told that it's not normally this full - it's cuz it's easter sunday/free concert

They had some psuedo hip hop/ballet dance praise thingy goin' on. mostly hip hop. it was quite interesting. they didnt use christian hip hop music, but rather a remix of secular beats/music [didnt play any bad words] with uh [i couldnt hear it] nelson mandela speaking in the background. neat.

the easter bunny came. in the end he admitted that Jesus is the true reason for easter.

they gave out free chocolate easter eggs. yummmmm. i think easter eggs are big here cuz i see them everywhere. i dont remember seeing them everywhere back home. but then again, cadbury chocolates are pretty big here too.

Parachute Band. not a great picture, but i didnt take any others cuz uh...well, yeah. haha. they were pretty awesome. did i say that already?

overall, it was pretty cool. i'll prolly go again, and hopefully get somemore pictures for you hungry hillsong fans. speaking of which...

The Houston's were sitting right across the way from me. Directly across. Straight up. I know it might be hard to see, but that woman on the far left is Pastor Bobbie Houston [Pastor Brian had been sitting in that empty seat but he dissapeared] and that fellow in the red/white shirt is Joel Houston. I'm pretty sure. Tell me if I'm wrong. I was seriously thinking about going up to him after service to ask him to take a picture with me, but I lost track of him/I think he dissapeared backstage. plus I felt really embarrassed and the friend that I asked didnt really wanna go with me [haha i wonder why].

if you wants mo' detail, juss ask. hehe. and oh yeah,

Here's a picture of my college (aka dorm) taken from the free hillsong bus that comes to the mall to take us to the Hills at 4. i was so hungry i didnt get to eat dinner until like 8:30 >.<.

And last but not least, another Aussie vs. US of A thang:

THEY DON'T HAVE WEDGES HERE.

i cried when i found out. for realz. would i lie to you guys?

of odd smells & milkshakes

so, for some reason, my room smells weird. funky. different. and i don't know why. i have my window wide open. my fan has been blowing all day (and night, i think). i've thrown out my trash & leftover/old food.

maybe the smell of my leftover noodles still lingers in the air...

in any case, my room smells weird. not bad, per se, just...weird.

pictures to come of my room/college/uni later. probably after i take them (hahahaha).

so the other day, i REALLY wanted some ice cream. like super duper REALLY wanted. and it was like 10 at night, so a lot of places were already closed, but i figured it'd be okay. my friends steph & kelvin went with me to the mall (steph to get a donut, me, well. you know).

i will not bore you with my lengthy attempts to get ice cream (everywhere was either closed, or their ice cream machine was BROKEN), but i will tell you all, my fellow americans, of my first. I tried to get a milkshake at krispy kreme. now i realize now that this was obviously a mistake - who buys ice cream from a donut shop? but i had gotten ice cream at donut king the other day, and it was good, so maybe, here would be good as well.

WRONG.

OMGOSH. seriously. they tell you when you leave america to make sure you look the other way when crossing the street, that we need to understand that they have different slang, and yes, all of their stores close earlier (on most days). but what they forgot to inform  me of was the HUGE SIGNIFICANT difference between an australian milkshake, and an american one.

at first i thought, it's krispy kreme. why else would it be like this?!

the consistency of my milkshake was like water. as described by kelvin, it tasted like "vanilla milk." a terrible way to spend $3.25. i couldn't just throw it away, but i didn't want to waste my precious ice cream wanting stomach space, so kelvin drank it (steph declared that it tasted funny).

so i thought to myself. is it krispy kreme, or is it...australia? after inquiring about it to a friend of mine who has been living here for i believe, 3-4 years, he made it known to me that an australian milkshake really is just a little thicker than water, and if you want REAL ice cream in it, you need to add it.

horrific shock ensued, if you can believe it.

                              real milkshake, i'll miss you.

EDIT: as of tonight, another "first" occured for me: my first noesbleed in Aus. very random, i assure. just popped up out of no where!

in the land down under

Hi all! I'm in AUSTRALIA!!

**WARNING** this will most likely be a lengthy post. you have been warned. take heed.

Things that have stood out to me this past week and a half:
- I'm friends with this girl from China (Amy D) who, until I bought it yesterday, had never had/never heard of CHAR SUI (aka, bbq pork). CRAZY!
- The reason why aussie's talk the way they do is because they have to mumble/talk faster/say words faster otherwise flies get in their mouths. Seriously, no lie. I've heard this from multiple sources.
- They eat the animals on their emblem: kangaroo & emu. and yes, I'm actually going to try it.
- They say "Herb", not "hERB"
- They drink so much here, it's normal for middle aged ppl to go out to clubs/pubs/bars, versus in the U.S. it's frowned upon/said individual is "heeby" or "sheeby". Also, some guys out here who are my age have beer bellies. GROSS!

So yeah, last week it was like, bleedin' hot. Every night in my room, even at like 12 or 1 AM it was 80 degrees fahrenheit...! But yeah, it's cooled down since there - it's kinda been overcast and rainy.

It took me like, 2-3 hours to get out of the airport and leave for my destination. It was kinda bad actually, cuz' my mom packed me like, all these over the counter meds (like sudafed, pepto bismol, etc., right?) and so on my declaration form to get into Aus, you have to tick these yes and no boxes, right? Well one of them asked if you had any drugs (over the counter, prescribed, illegal) and so I said yes cuz' I didn't want to lie. And then I had a list of everything I had cuz' we were worried about me getting in trouble, and finally when I was almost through, there's this part where they search through your bags as they please, and they didn't even ask to see my meds - so I could have been lying!!!

Anyhow, hung out, met some ppl - went to a "harbour cruise" on a fun boat. It was an activity for "o week" with my college (dorm) and the theme was "traffic lights" - so if you were single/available = green, complicated = orange, taken = red. It was pretty exciting to see all the sights - it was my first time actually in the city! (my university is actually in a suburb north of sydney). But yeah...it was interesting.

anyhow! went exploring into some nearby suburbs where there be some good chinese/asian food!! ^_^ it was pretty fun/cool. And then on saturday we went to Sydney and walked around! it was fun. We went to Chinatown and ate good food and i went to karaoke for the first time!! most of my friends are internationals from like, china, hk and malaysia (basically, asia) so they sang a lot of chinese songs. apparently the place we went to was set up "just like in HK". cool cool. and yeah!! fun times.

classes started this past monday. they're really different than at SFSU/back home. you have to enroll in a course (get approved for it) and then register for the actual class times/sections. and yeah, it's pretty interesting. I'll let ya'll know how I like it as the semester progresses.

And now I'm off to lunch! I heard there's fish and chips =P.
